License Key not working

Published: March 13, 2024
Support status: closed

I have purchased the Quiz Styler plugin. I have copied the license key (carefully and repeatedly ensuring no spaces etc) and it does not work. A message flashes up and then goes before I can read it, something about not having a valid license key and then it resets without activating.
The domain is correct.
What am I doing wrong?!? Should be so simple!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Laura,
first, I checked out your site. Love the cute little robots! Although I suppose I’m a little biased haha.

I just checked the license validation with your credentials and it is 100% returning as valid.

“A message flashes up and then goes before I can read it, something about not having a valid license key and then it resets without activating.”

Is the part that makes the least sense to me. If the license is not valid, the only thing that happens is that the textbox gets a red border. It doesn’t show you a message or reload the page.

However, when you enter a correct key — the page DOES reload, so that we can show the real page instead of the activation page.

So my theory is that your validation IS correctly working, but due to cache (either your browser, or host), the activation page keeps loading instead of the real page (because it’s cached).

How to fix

This is here not just for you, but for anyone else who encounters this issue as well.

First, lets try your browser. Try accessing the page with a different browser, or use Incognito Mode to test. This will bypass your browser’s cache. If this works, then great! All you have to do is clear your browser cache and everything will work 100%.

If the above does not work, then it means that your server itself is caching the page. This can happen in one of two places. The first is if you have a page cache plugin installed. If so, just make sure that you are not caching the admin area, and clear the site cache just to be sure.

The second (and looking at your site’s source code, I believe this to be true) is your host.

How to fix (for you!)

I see you are hosted with Siteground. They have their own cache solution which is… very aggressive. What makes them so annoying is that they not only cache the front-end of your site, but the do the back-end admin area as well. I believe that this is the issue.

Here is their documentation on how to clear their cache: https://world.siteground.com/kb/clear-site-cache/

There is also the “Speed Optimizer” plugin for Siteground that you may have installed which may be a quicker way to access the settings you need.

No matter what the issue is, I will be able to get you up and running 100%, so please let me know if you need any help with the above, or if you determine that this isn’t a cache problem.
