Till now I was very happy with this HD Quiz plugin. But now I am facing a serious problem, perhaps after upgrading to version 1.8
I have more than 20 Quizzes created using HD Quiz
There are around 1500 odd questions
When I edit and save a question from any quiz, it simply gets lost.
I tried to go back to version 1.7 but the installation is not getting through. It gives message that folder already exists
please help.

Hi there,
sorry to hear you are having issues with the latest version. So far, you seem to be the only one with this issue after the upgrades.

First, you you perform the data update? There should be big scary notices letting you know that your questions and quizzes need to be updated. If you haven’t done that yet, then that’s problaby the issue.

However, if you still want to downgrade to the previous version, you first need to DELETE the existing version. Deactivate, then DELETE the plugin, then install v1.7 as normal.

Thanks for quick response.
One doubt
If I Deactivate and uninstall HD Quiz to install version 1.7, what will happen to my already uploaded quizzes and questions ?
is there a way to save or export the Quizzes and upload after reinstallation.

No data will be lost by deleting HD Quiz so you should be safe. However, if you want to be extra safe, then I would recommend backing up yur database first.

Also, just yesterday, WordPress released version 5.5. One of the new features of WP 5.5 is

Update by uploading ZIP files
If updating plugins and themes manually is your thing, now that’s easier too — just upload a ZIP file.

So just kind of funy that the issue you were having with needing to delete a plugin before being able to reupload wouldn’t have been an issue if you tried this yesterday.
