Hi, Thank you so much for this fantastic plugin!

I have a question about a (hopefully possible) question type. Building on the “Text Based Answers” question, I was hoping to create a quiz question that would let users type in sentences and then HD Quiz would do a keyword match to count the number of correct answers. For example, if the question is “Describe this image,” and someone writes, “An aisle in a library. The bookshelf on the right has magazines. The bookshelf on the left has books. A comfy blue chair for reading is at the end of the aisle.” HD Quiz would recognize and count the correct keywords: “aisle,” “library,” “bookshelf,” “magazines,” “books,” “blue,” and “chair.” Would that be possible?

Would it also be possible to add an option to include stemming characters to the “Text Based Answers”? I would love to be able to enter book~ or book* to cover “books,” “booking,” bookshelves,” etc.

Thank you so much for everything you’re doing,
Megan

Hi Megan,
for your first request, this is something I’ll need to think about more, but I do not think this is something I’ll be adding to HD Quiz – at least not any time soon. HD Quiz is a Free and Open Source plugin that is hopefully as accessible to everything as possible.

One of the issues with this idea is how the “check” function would work across all languages. Something that might seem easy or intuitive in English might completely break in a different language.

But the largest issue is with the scoring. At the moment, HD Quiz operates under the assumption that each question is only ever worth 1 point. But your idea would require dynamic question score values based on how many possible “correct” answers there are. However, work is being actively done to HD Quiz to make this possible, so who knows what the future holds.

For your second request “stemming” characters for the Text-Based Answers – this is a fantastic idea. So fantastic that it’s already implemented for the next major release of HD Quiz. It’s simple in that any word with an asterisk () after it will match as “correct” as long as the word starts with that string. Example: `book` will allow for book, books, booking, booker, bookdsk, etc.

I have no planned release date for the next major release, but you can expect it within the next 3 – 4 weeks (i hope!)

If you are enjoying HD Quiz please leave a review here on the official WordPress.org page. HD Quiz is developed by me, just some dude, and is supported and available for free. It may seem dumb, but truly nothing makes me happier than knowing that people are using and loving HD Quiz and my hard work.
